Frequently Asked Questions

Does tanning indoors have the same effect as outdoors?

Yes! The advantage of tanning indoors is 'control'. You know what to expect from a single tanning session, unlike a session in the sun.

Why do I need to wear eye protection?

Eye protection is required by law. The eyelid does not effectively block ultraviolet light while tanning. Therefore, the use of approved eyewear is required while tanning at Solara to insure that our customers do not suffer ill effects, such as cataracts or night blindness.

How do I prevent "racoon eyes"?

Adjusting your eyewear once in a while during your tanning session will help reduce the demarcation of tanned to non-tanned skin. You can make this adjustment by gently sliding your eyewear to a new position. You should never lift the eyewear off of your eyes during adjustment.

Why does a tan disappear?

The top layer of skin (aka epidermis) replaces itself once a month. As the skin sheds, the tan begins to fade.

An indoor tanning session is equivalent to how many hours in the sun?

One study seemed to indicate that based on very specific controlled factors, a single session is approximately equal to 2 hours outdoors. However, this is a very controlled study.

What causes white spots?

The main cause is the way you lay in a tanning bed. Pressure applied to some areas of the body restricts blood flow, you need oxygen in order to tan. Move around to avoid these white spots.
